Climate justice issue needs to be raised in international forums: President Poudel

Kathmandu. President Ram Chandra Poudel has said that for countries like Nepal, which have no role in climate change, it is important to raise the issue of climate justice at every international forum. Inaugurating a conference organized by the Geological Society here today, he said that the issue of climate justice should be brought to the attention of the world.

He expressed the view that the issue of climate justice should be raised vigorously in the context of the indiscriminate industrialization, exploitation of fossil fuels, and carbon emissions in developed countries, which have no role in climate change, affecting developing and underdeveloped countries like Nepal.

Says that the importance of the Geological Conference has been enhanced by pressing issues such as mitigation of the impacts of climate change, natural disasters, and management, and President Poudel pointed out the need for cooperation and collaboration at the national and international levels to address such sensitive issues that have a direct bearing on human life. .

President Poudel, citing the unnatural increase in the temperature of the earth, expressed concern that in the past three decades, the snow in our mountains has melted and glaciers have burst, most of the mountains are in the process of being transformed into bare mountains, and there is a huge loss of life and property every year due to water disasters, landslides and erosion due to excessive rainfall.

He said that the occasional earthquakes in the Himalayan mountain range are also a problem for the development and construction of the mountainous country of Nepal, and expressed the view that although some natural disasters can be predicted, the problem has arisen due to the failure to invent a mechanism to predict earthquakes.

President Poudel He expressed confidence that the conference would discuss the status of Nepal’s mines and mineral resources, the state of exploration, climate change and its impact, and the use of geology in the development of physical infrastructure. He expressed confidence that the geological conference would also be useful in attracting the attention of investors for the extraction, utilization, and market management of natural resources. President Poudel said, “This geological conference has special importance as it will also be reviewed on the eve of the 2072 BS Garkha earthquake, which is approaching a decade since it occurred. I wish the conference success.”
