Climate change issue to be raised at Sagarmatha Dialogue, heads of 350 countries to be invited

Kathmandu. With more than two months left for the Sagarmatha Sambad, the government on Sunday informed about the Sagarmatha Sambad. The Sagarmatha Sambad program is being held from Jestha 2-4, 2082.

Amrit Rai, Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that invitations will be sent to heads of government from more than 350 different countries for the Sagarmatha Sambad. The government said that it expects heads of state from more than 150 countries to participate among the invitations sent.

He said that Nepali embassies abroad and embassies of related countries in Nepal have been used for the invitation. He said, “We estimate 350 people. Nepalis and foreigners. It is believed that 150 to 175 people will attend.’

Ek Narayan Aryal, Chief Secretary of the Government of Nepal, said that Nepal has taken the lead in the issue of the Himalayas and is raising its voice about the damage and losses caused by climate change.

He said that Nepal is experiencing environmental degradation and is raising its voice in various international forums to avoid it, and that the government is moving forward to make the Sagarmatha Dialogue effective. He said that the issue of climate change has been included in this year’s Sagarmatha Dialogue. He said that the issue will be changed as needed in the future.

He said, ‘This is actually what we are trying to lead. We have said in the international forum to avoid the loss and damage and our rights that we are experiencing due to environmental destruction. We will also take this forward with focus in policies and programs. Since we are more affected, we have taken this agenda into account and moved forward. This year, we took up the issue of climate change. Next year, we will go to other themes.’

Chief Secretary Aryal said that the government has taken the Sagarmatha Dialogue forward with high importance. He said that the government is also committed to completing it on time. He said that the government is moving forward to make it more effective.

On the first day of the Sagarmatha Dialogue, there will be a discussion on the urgent work to be done on glacier conservation. On the first day, there will be a dialogue on connecting islands to high mountain areas. Food security and agricultural revitalization, and community-led activities in the mountain areas will also be discussed.

On the second day of the Sagarmatha Dialogue, there will be a discussion on climate-related disasters: risk reduction and recovery. It was informed that the monitoring of the risks of the mountains and its achievements, and the efforts made to minimize the damage to the mountains will be discussed. It was informed that on the third day of the Sagarmatha Dialogue, there is a program to take the guests who have come to participate in the dialogue to observe the Everest region through an air flight.
