Kathmandu. Minister for Water Supply Pradeep Yadav has said that the drinking water problem of Karnali will be resolved soon. Speaking at the meeting of the Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the National Assembly on Tuesday, Minister Yadav said this.

He expressed his commitment to work by keeping the drinking water problem of Karnali and Madhes provinces as a top priority in the budget for the upcoming fiscal year. He said that due to the lack of budget in the Ministry of Water Supply as expected, it has not been possible to provide clean drinking water to many places. He said that the provision of 30 percent investment by citizens in the drinking water sector is being abolished and a decision will be made within this week.

He said that arrangements are being made for the federal government to invest 85 percent and the provincial and local governments to invest 15 percent in the drinking water project. He also said that arrangements will be made for drinking water supply to the Kathmandu Valley for 12 months from the Melamchi Drinking Water Project. He expressed his commitment to provide the Melamchi project, which has been on hold since the month of Ashar, throughout the year. He also said that the budget ceiling for the next fiscal year has been reduced.

He also claimed that 98 percent of the citizens have access to basic drinking water so far. Most of the lawmakers who spoke in the meeting drew Minister Yadav’s attention to the widespread problem of drinking water in Madhesh and Karnali provinces.

In Tuesday’s meeting, discussions were held with the ministry regarding the progress of the Ministry of Drinking Water on drinking water, sanitation and hygiene and the preparation of the budget for the next fiscal year.
