Chitwan. Carrots and beetroot produced in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-15, Shreepur have started being exported to Germany. 100 tons of beetroot and 150 tons of carrots planted in 12 bighas have started being exported to Germany.
According to Chandra Prasad Adhikari, Chairman of the District Organic Association Chitwan, the organization ‘The Organic Valley’ has started sending carrots and beetroot produced here abroad for the past 2 years. He said that with the aim of promoting local products and encouraging farmers, agricultural produce has been certified at the international level and exported. According to him, preparations have been made to send those products from Falgun 15 this year.
Says that 20 bighas here have been recognized as organic areas, he said, ‘Out of 12 bighas, 60 percent of the area is planted with carrots and 40 percent with beetroot. Exports have started after foreign consumers trusted the products here.’
Chabi Lal Neupane, a member of the association, informed that carrots going to Germany are set at Rs 20 per kilogram and beetroot at Rs 50 per kilogram. He informed that carrots and beetroot planted by 15 farmers affiliated with the association are being exported to Germany. He said, ‘Apart from carrots and beetroot, wheat, lentils, barley, grass, potatoes and other vegetables are being produced in the agricultural farming area.’ The agricultural produce produced here has been sold in Germany as well as in Chitwan, Pokhara, Kathmandu and other districts.
Neupane informed that an organization called ‘Agricultural Venture’ of Nepal has been purchasing carrots and beetroot and selling them in the domestic market. He said that the Agricultural Development Office, Chitwan, initially provided financial support to the Organic Association, but recently it has only been providing technical support. Earlier, it had been providing assistance in ‘packaging’, ‘grading’ and marketing.
