Lekhnath. Gandaki Province Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey has urged all stakeholders to unite in natural disaster mitigation, search, treatment and relief work.
After observing the disaster response model exercise conducted by the Armed Police Force at Begnas Lake in Pokhara Metropolitan City-31 today, he said that Gandaki Province is as beautiful as it is risky in terms of disasters.
‘Since the incidents of water-borne disasters are more common in Pokhara, the city of Talai Tal, the provincial government has focused its attention on this,’ he said. ‘The provincial government has taken forward work to build a rescue tower in Begnas Lake like in Fewa Tal.’
The Armed Police Force Chief Minister Pandey said that the disaster response model exercise, coordinated by the Muktinath Bahini in Pokhara and organized by the Kalika Battalion, will further help in reducing water-borne disasters.
He said that the Gandaki Provincial Government has been collaborating with all security agencies to conduct disaster model exercises, training, response and material transfer programs in coordination and collaboration with all security agencies to reduce the risk of disasters.
Chief Minister Pandey informed that the provincial government has conducted diver training in collaboration with the Armed Police Force to reduce the risk of water-borne disasters. He mentioned that the local community should also be informed about the actions to be taken during a disaster and the restraint to be adopted.
‘Active preparation, strong coordination and development of rescue capacity up to the local level can minimize the huge losses caused by disasters,’ said Chief Minister Pandey. He informed that a disaster management fund has been operated at the provincial level without reducing Rs 100 million and at the district level without reducing Rs 1 million.
