Kathmandu. Nepal Chamber of Commerce is going to facilitate investment for the expansion of the IT industry. After the government facilitated investment through an ordinance, the chamber has set a strategic goal to facilitate investment in the IT industry and the international market.
Through the IT, Software and Technology Committee, the chamber will take initiatives for the search for investment in the IT industry and the development of entrepreneurship. The chamber has already held a round of discussions with IT entrepreneurs for this.
Nepal Chamber of Commerce President Kamlesh Kumar Agrawal said that the IT industry has high potential for economic development and prosperity in Nepal, so it is going to facilitate investment.
He said, “The IT industry is now an important source of foreign exchange earnings in Nepal. The government has also set an action plan with a target of earning Rs 300 billion annually in the next decade. The chamber will facilitate investment in the international market for the development of the information technology industry.”
President Agrawal said that the IT industry can be established by raising investment from the general public. He said that since Nepal’s human resources are comparatively cheaper for the international IT industry, suitable opportunities should be sought.
Chairman Agrawal also said that the chamber will play a role in facilitating the policy level to involve Nepali youth in the IT industry. Outgoing Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Rajendra Malla, said that companies should be set up on the concept of public-private partnership and engaged in the development of the IT industry.
Current Chairman Malla said that it is possible to work as a backup for large international companies by staying at home. Vigyan Shrestha, chairman of the chamber’s IT Software and Technology Committee, stressed the need for collaboration between the government and the private sector for the development and expansion of the IT industry.
Shrestha stressed the need to increase access to investment to make the innovative ideas and thinking of the youth worthwhile.
