Jhapa. The Agricultural Knowledge Center, Jhapa, has stated that Chaite rice cultivation has been carried out on 20,000 hectares of land in the district. Of this, the Agricultural Knowledge Center has planted Chaite rice for testing using modern technology in 48 bighas of land in eight municipalities.

With the aim of directly informing farmers that farming using machinery is cheaper and more productive than traditional farming, the center’s head, Sagar Bista, informed that Chaite rice planting (technology demonstration) was carried out using machines as part of the agricultural mechanization demonstration program.

He said that Chaite rice was planted on 120 hectares of land this year using modern agricultural mechanization. According to him, all the agricultural groups and cooperatives that were sampled by the Knowledge Center in the past have continued to cultivate Chaite rice using agricultural mechanization this year as well.

The center has been encouraging farmers to plant Hardinath-1 rice by selecting farmers’ groups with the help of local municipalities. He said, ‘We have been recommending planting this rice seed as it yields better than other rice.’ He said that this rice seed ripens in 120 days from the day it is planted.

This year, agricultural machinery has been demonstrated under farmer groups in Gauriganj Rural Municipality, Gauradaha Municipality, Shivasatakshi Municipality, Kamal Rural Municipality, Buddhashanti Rural Municipality, Arjundhara Municipality, Bhadrapur Municipality, and Haldibari Rural Municipality. The center has provided assistance to the selected agricultural groups with rice seeds, seed trays, and technical support.
