Kathmandu. The Revenue Investigation Department has registered a case against 2 people for embezzlement of 250 million foreign currency. The department has registered the case in the District Court, Kathmandu.

On Chaitra 12, 2081, the Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku, had seized foreign currency worth 250 million from a container (truck) bearing Na 7 Kha 1652 number that was going from Tokha to Jhor on the road in Tokha Na. Pa. Ward No. 2. The police had handed over the truck, money and driver to the BIA for further investigation, including the truck driver Kusang Lama.

The department’s investigation has revealed that the truck carrying 250 million rupees and the money belonged to Narayan Poudel. Poudel is currently absconding. Although the department’s investigation is expected to reach the second and third levels, effective investigation could not be carried out due to the lack of cooperation between the Nepal Police and the department.

The department has claimed a 253.478 million rupees in damages against two people. A case will be filed against Lama and Poudel under Sections 3.45 and 9 of the Foreign Exchange (Regulation) Act, 2019. The department has also sought permission from the court to auction the tram.
