Parsa. The Sunakhari Intermediate Community Homestay (Homestay) located in Subarnapur, Thori, Parsa, has seen an increase in the enthusiasm of the locals who operate the homestay with the arrival of three thousand guests in the current fiscal year.
Although the first community homestay in Madhesh Province could not increase the number of tourists as expected due to lack of adequate publicity and ‘branding’ in the past years, there has been a significant increase in the number of tourists in this current fiscal year.
Shambhuram Poudel, Chairman of Sunakhari Intermediate Community Homestay, informed that the number of tourists has increased compared to the previous year as more than 60 film actors and technicians stayed during the three-month period from Mangsir to Falgun of the current fiscal year. .
‘Last fiscal year, about 1,800 guests came,’ he said, ‘this year, about 3,000 tourists have come in the period up to the third week of Baisakh. With the increase in tourist traffic, the enthusiasm of local homestay operators is increasing.’
Producer Anup Poudel had shot the film ‘Elephant in the Fog’ based on Nepali and Bhojpuri languages in Shikaribas and the surrounding areas of Thori Rural Municipality. Last fiscal year, about 1,800 guests came here.
This homestay has been operating in 15 houses since 2073 BS. Located 34 kilometers from the Birgunj metropolitan area, the homestay offers a panoramic view of Thori and also offers a variety of wildlife viewing opportunities. There are attractions here such as Baghmorcha Mai, Gumba, Pranami Temple, Martyrs’ Memorial, Sunakhari Forest, etc.
Homestays are currently being operated in 15 houses here. One house has two rooms for guests. Sunakhari Consumers’ Committee Chairman Bhim Bahadur Pakhrin complained that there is a problem in transporting tourists on public holidays due to the white number plate safari vehicle provided by the provincial government as a grant for tourists.
‘We have repeatedly approached the Madhesh Ministry. However, the problem has not been resolved yet.’ Parsa Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal has expressed his commitment to provide necessary facilitation to resolve the problem.
Guests here also enjoy special locally produced corn dishes, local chicken and corn dumplings. When guests come in groups, the Tamang community has also been presenting cultural programs.
