Kathmandu. Nepali Congress lawmaker Binod Chaudhary has said that there is a debate in Nepal on whether to become a banker and businessman or not.
Chaudhary said this while participating in a discussion with stakeholders regarding the bill to amend the Bank and Financial Institutions Act, 2073 BS in the meeting of the Finance Committee under the House of Representatives on Monday.
He stressed the need to pay attention to the way the world economy is progressing. He clarified that the bank is the engine of the economy and it is the job of the bank to do what needs to be done to keep the economy moving.
Lawmaker Chaudhary said that banks without private sector capital are becoming the most corrupt.
He said, “The trend in which the world is going. The world economy is going. In that contest, can a banker become a businessman rather than go there and widen it? I feel like I’ve only reached that place. Which is the most important thing to do. Now the matter has also been raised here, today our small, medium, micro, its right is not going into the hands of the people. On the one hand, there is no capital flow. In the last 10 years, the government has come up with many schemes to create new entrepreneurs, but none of them have been successful. From the Planning Commission to the Prime Minister’s Office, there were offices. ‘
“Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) once came up with a plan to create new entrepreneurs by giving capital ranging from Rs 1 million to Rs 3 million. However, that too could not succeed in finding an easy way out. A bank is the engine of the economy. The bank’s job is to keep the economy moving. Today, there are also banks in which people with good ownership do not sit on the board. They are running with professional people and those banks are running well. But the bank which does not have the capital of any private sector businessman. They are also the most corrupt banks. Today, if the investment of the traders is in the bank, if that bank is going to collapse and deteriorate, then the banks that are traders should stand in one place and those who are not on the other side, but the story is different,” he said.
He said none of the government’s plans to produce new entrepreneurs in the last 10 years have been successful.
