Kathmandu. Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Rajendra Prasad Lingden has pointed out the need to bring the budget for the upcoming fiscal year to improve the weak economy. While expressing his views on a party basis in the first meeting of the current session of the House of Representatives, Chairman Lingden emphasized that the budget should be brought based on needs rather than on the basis of power and access.
‘Let the situation of budgeting from the pockets of leaders in the government and giving money only to their constituencies end. Let the situation of having to tear up the budget booklet and protest end,’ he said. The RPP has reiterated its demand for the formation of a commission for a judicial investigation into the incident that took place in Tinkune on Chaitra 15. He alleges that the government side was more oppressive than the protesters during the incident.
‘If the incident was planned, why couldn’t the police seize weapons from any of the protesters? It doesn’t appear that even a baton was recovered from the protesters,’ he said. ‘But the police fired more than 650 rounds of tear gas. There were various other types of firing.’
Lingden says that the shooting was on a person walking on the road, who had no connection with the said demonstration. He also alleged that people from the ruling party were arrested in the looting that took place in Bhatbhateni during the protest and that those people were left without taking action.
He again demanded the formation of a judicial commission in the Tinkune incident. Similarly, he said that it was wrong to say that talking about the monarchy is opposing democracy. ‘Talking about the king is not opposing democracy. Monarchy and democracy are not alternatives to each other,’ he said, ‘Advanced democracy with monarchy is being practiced in some countries in the world.’
Lingden also accused political parties and the government of working against democracy. He said that behavior will show who is against and for democracy. He mentioned in Parliament that political parties should not behave autocratically.
