Jumla. Chandannath Municipality has initiated the construction of a corridor on the north-south flowing Jugadkhola between the district headquarters Khalanga Bazaar to make it a destination for domestic and foreign tourism. Mayor Rajusinh Kathayat informed that the corridor has been started with the aim of making the river in the district headquarters clean, green and organized and developing it as a tourist destination.
Laying the foundation stone of the corridor, Deputy Mayor of Chandannath Municipality Ramdevi Khadka said that it will give a new identity to Jugadkhola. The corridor has already been delineated for the construction of tourism infrastructure. The work has been started using a dozer near the office of the Drinking Water Consumers Committee, according to Deputy Mayor Khadka.
A budget of Rs 60 million has been allocated in the first phase under the multi-year plan. According to Tek Bahadur Budthapa, the municipality’s Chief Administrative Officer, a corridor will be constructed in a three-kilometer area within the current fiscal year. A two-meter wide corridor will be constructed from the office of the Drinking Water Consumers Committee to Chandannath-4 Malavid. A budget of Rs 200 million has been received from the Cooperative Development and Building Construction Project, Jumla, for the construction of the corridor.
State lights, CCTV cameras and rest areas will be constructed within the corridor. With the cleaning and beautification of Jugadkhola, this corridor is expected to become a center of attraction not only for locals but also for external visitors, said Budthapa, Chief Administrative Officer of the Municipality.
