Dhorpatan. A motorable bridge is being constructed at Rumtakhola along the Kusmishera-Bareng-Shantipur road connecting Baglung and Gulmi.
Although the road was constructed and traffic began operating in 2065 BS, the bridge at Rumtakhola, which lies on the border of Jaimini Municipality-9 and 10, had not been constructed, causing traffic to come to a standstill during the rainy season. The construction of the bridge here began last year, 16 years after the road was opened.
The Infrastructure Development Office, Baglung, signed a construction agreement with Suryodaya Construction Parbat on April 11 and the work has been progressed to be completed by April 10, 2083 BS, said Dipesh Rigal, the office’s information officer.
According to him, construction has begun at a cost of Rs. 69.46 million. So far, 60 percent of the work has been completed. If the construction company works at this pace, the work will be completed before the contract date, said the office chief, Rigal.
Jamini Municipality Deputy Chief Harihar Sharma said that after the construction of the bridge in Rumtakhola, thousands of citizens of Jaimini, Bareng Rural Municipality and Gulmi will be able to travel easily.
Despite being the main road connecting the two districts, Rumtakhola has been suffering during the rainy season for years and this problem will be resolved soon, he said. Deputy Chief Sharma said that it is believed that the construction of the bridge will further support the marketing of local products.
‘We worked hard to build the bridge here, now the construction of the bridge has finally begun. “If the bridge had not been built here, travel during the rainy season would have been very difficult, with traffic being blocked for months. After the bridge is built, this problem will end forever,” he said.
