Myagdi. A wooden bridge has been constructed on the Huchin Khola, which is on the trekking route connecting Gurjaghat of Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve and Gurja of Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality-1 in Myagdi. The 32-meter-long bridge and the 200-meter-long trekking route have been constructed with a grant of Rs. 500,000 from Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality and labor contribution of Rs. 60,000 from consumers.

After the construction of the bridge, the residents of Gurja and tourists traveling on the Dhorpatan-Gurja trekking route will no longer have to cross the river at risk during the rainy season, informed Gunram Chhantyal, ward member of Dhawalagiri-1 Gurja.

‘The river coming from Rughachaur and the confluence of Huchin Khola often experience sudden floods during the rainy season. “There was a risk of being swept away by floods while crossing the river due to the lack of a bridge,” he said. “The logs of the old bridge in the village were pulled out and placed. The bridge was built using local technology by pulling the same logs and laying wooden planks.”

There is a hiking trail connecting Gurjaghat of Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve via Huchin Khola. Tourists as well as locals have to cross Huchin Khola to take their animals to the shed and to go to the forest to collect mushrooms, shoots and herbs.
