Lamjung. The road connecting the center of Dordi Rural Municipality in Lamjung has been blacktopped using American ‘asphalt’ technology. Blacktopping has begun on the Udipur-Rittehbagar-Nauthar road under this section a few days ago.

The Gandaki Province government has started blacktopping as part of its campaign to achieve ‘One Municipality, One Road’, said Naresh Raj Joshi, Information Officer of the Infrastructure Development Office, Lamjung. According to him, out of the 7.121 kilometers of this road connecting the center of the municipality, three kilometers are being blacktopped in the current fiscal year.

According to Information Officer Joshi, the blacktopping done using this technology is durable, sustainable, and excellent. He said that the goal is to have all the roads blacktopped by the upcoming Dashain-Tihar. According to him, the blacktop work has now started from the bottom of Udipur Bazaar, across the Marsyangdi River, in Besisahar Municipality-1. Joshi said, ‘The work of this road should have been completed a few years ago, but the contractor did not work on time and could not complete it even after extending the deadline several times.’

According to him, although the blacktop work should have been completed by Ashar 2, 2079 BS, the construction company was given the responsibility to complete it by Poush 2079 BS, citing the delay in starting the construction due to Covid. When the construction was not completed within that time, the deadline was extended again to Ashar 29, 2080 BS, and when it was not completed within that period, the deadline was extended to Mangsir 28, 2081 BS. ‘Even after the construction was not completed by that time, the deadline has not been extended yet. It has been sent to the ministry for extension. Details will be available in a few days,’ he said. Contec Construction Private Limited Kathmandu had signed an agreement for the construction of the road on Ashar 3, 2077 BS. The Infrastructure Development Office has stated that the construction is being carried out with an investment of Rs 262.96 million by the provincial government.

According to the office, this year alone the office has paid Rs 41 million, while about Rs 21 million has been paid so far. The construction has been delayed due to the contractor company not working for a long time, said the office’s information officer Joshi. ‘Later, the construction is being affected because the government has not been able to provide funds. We have sent a letter to the concerned body to ensure the budget. It is estimated that it will cost about Rs 20 million immediately,’ he said. According to the Infrastructure Office, Besisahar Municipality-1 connects to Dordi Rural Municipality-4 from Udipur via Besisahar-11. Of this, it is stated that 1,113 cubic meters of road will be sloped at two places on the road. The blacktop will be four centimeters thick.
