Kathmandu. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka has said that the country will become prosperous with the development of the energy sector. He said this while inaugurating the Sanjen Khola Hydropower Project on Wednesday.

He said that the government is moving ahead with the goal of generating 28,500 megawatts of electricity within 10 years and will develop Nepal’s energy sector by moving forward shoulder to shoulder with two big neighboring countries. He expressed happiness that domestic and foreign cooperation in the hydropower sector has been increasing recently.

He said that everyone is increasing investment, realizing that economic prosperity can only come through investment in the power sector. He asserted that the energy sector has now strengthened relations between neighbors. He said that although the government has a target of producing 28,500 megawatts of electricity within 10 years, Nepal wants to make full use of its water resources.

He said, “While we are now aiming to produce 28,500 megawatts of electricity within 10 years with the belief that the development of the energy sector can bring prosperity to the country, I would like to express my gratitude to our neighboring friends, countries like China and India, which are two large countries and economically developed countries, for the support they have extended to us. We want to walk together with them. Nepal wants to move forward step by step, not sitting behind two neighboring countries. Ten years ago, there was a situation where there was no willingness to invest much in this sector. The financial sector was also unable to move forward with courage. Since the past 10 years, everyone has realized that only the development of this sector can bring economic prosperity, and large investments have started coming to this sector. Neighboring countries have also started to cooperate, which is a matter of pride.’

Minister Khadka said that there would be no load shedding at the homes of citizens and said that although the financial condition of the Electricity Authority was not that good, there were many areas for improvement. Stating that the best skilled engineer in Asia is the Executive Director of the Electricity Authority, he expressed confidence that the hydropower sector would be developed without allowing load shedding by maintaining good economic governance.
