Myagdi. Myagdi: The ring road at Beni, the district headquarters of Myagdi, at the confluence of Kaligandaki and Myagdi rivers, has been completed. Beni Bazaar on the banks of the river has been made safe and looking smooth after the construction of a ring road by slopeing the RCC on the embankment built to protect it from river erosion.
Beni Municipality Mayor Surat KC said that the work of upgrading the ring road at Benibazar has been completed at an investment of Rs 31.9 million under the government’s program to build 10 model municipalities across the country. A drain of about 900 meters length and five to six meters wide road has also been constructed from Kalipul of Beni Municipality-8 to Dobhan to the side of the multi-purpose ground on the west side of the open platform.
Mayor KC clarified that the construction of the ring road along the banks of Kaligandaki and Myagdi rivers on the outskirts of Beni Bazaar has made vehicular movement easier and the risk of accidents has also been reduced by reducing the traffic pressure in the inner part of the market area. The construction of ‘RCC’ and ‘machinery’ embankments for the protection of Benibazar, the high-risk district headquarters of floods, is continuing. In 2073 BS, the Beni Bazar Conservation Project was started by the Water Generated Disaster Control Sub-Division Office, Baglung with the construction of a concrete wall on the banks of the Kaligandaki River and a machinery wall on the banks of the Myagdi River.
In 2072 BS, a 124.5-metre wall was constructed along the Kaligandaki coast at a cost of Rs 18.8 million and a 63-metre concrete wall was constructed in 2070 BS. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Irrigation had approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the Benibazar Conservation Programme. Benibazar, located at the confluence of Kaligandaki and Myagdi, is a historical and delightful settlement that expanded in the 17th century. According to historian Chandra Prakash Baniya, after the disintegration of the mountain kingdom in 1631 BS, the seventh king of the mountain, Malebam Malla, moved the capital of the mountain state to Beni.
Beni Bazaar, a major tourist attraction and habitat under the Annapurna Circuit, is located about 300 kilometers west of the capital Kathmandu. More than a dozen glaciers including Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Churain, Manapathi and Gurja can be seen from beni and adjoining areas.
