Bhojpur. The problem of locals having to walk for hours to get general health services in Temkemaiyung Rural Municipality-5 of Bhojpur has come to an end. The problem of locals has been eliminated after basic community health services came into operation in the village itself.

Vice-Chairperson of the rural municipality Ramadevi Rai said that services are being provided through community health services targeting locals of the then former Khawa Village Development Committee-9, 8 and 7 to provide easy services to the citizens. She said that she has established a health unit and provided services as per the promise she made when she became a people’s representative to solve the suffering faced by the citizens.

‘The citizens here had a lot of problems getting health services,’ said Vice-Chairperson Rai. ‘Even to get general health services, they had to walk for three to four hours. We have been able to provide services from here as promised when we became the people’s representative.’

Vice President Rai said that she is playing a role at her level to provide healthcare services to citizens easily. She informed that services are being provided by establishing basic community health units in other geographically remote places as well.

Ramesh Bista of Temkemaiyung-5 said that he is happy to receive healthcare services from his village when he has to walk for hours to get water for common cold and cough. He said that the establishment of the health unit has put an end to the compulsion of the citizens of this place to spend three to four hours traveling to other places for services.

‘Getting general health services was a problem,’ he said. ‘Now we are able to get services from the village itself. Now our problem that has been going on for years has gone away.’ Local Dev Bahadur Bista said that even though the health institution is operating in the village itself, we are able to get regular health check-ups when we are sick.

Bista informed that the establishment of the health center has put an end to the situation of having to walk for hours to get general treatment. ‘We have been facing problems in getting general health services for generations,’ he said. ‘Now, it has become easier after the establishment of the health center in the village itself. We were very sad because there was no health center. Now, we are able to get regular health check-ups in our own place.’
