Kanchanpur. Mesh wire (barbed wire) installation has begun in the wild animal affected area of Shuklaphanta Municipality. Mesh wire is being installed in an area of 5.88 kilometers.

Mesh wire is being installed in Ward No. 8 and Ward No. 12, known as wards affected by wild animals, said Deepak Dhami, head of the municipality’s infrastructure development branch. For this, the municipality and the Sudurpaschim Province have shared the cost by bearing half and half of the amount.

A contract agreement has been signed with Pashupati and Bhuvaneshwori Suppliers for the installation of mesh wire for Rs. 9.5 million out of the Rs. 150,000, including a supplementary grant of Rs. 75 million from the provincial government and Rs. 75 million from the municipality, said Branch Chief Dhami.

According to him, 51 percent of the work on the installation of mesh wire has been completed in both wards so far. In Ward No. 12, 2,900 meters of mesh wire will be installed from Kunda Tole to Kalagaundi and in Ward No. 8, 2,900 meters from the ward office to the south will be installed.

‘The mesh wire installation in Ward No. 12 is about 60 percent complete,’ he said. ‘Two kilometers of mesh wire have been installed, only nine hundred meters remain to be installed. In Ward No. 8, one kilometer of mesh wire installation has been completed, while one kilometer of nine hundred meters of mesh wire remains to be installed.’

The goal has been set to complete the mesh wire installation work within two months. “Wild animals including elephants, nilgai, chital, wild boars have been entering the fields and destroying all the crops planted,” said Genduram Rana, a resident of Ward No. 12. “We are confident that the installation of mesh wire will stop the terror of wild animals.”

Ward Chairman Nabal Singh Rana said that the mesh wire is being installed to stop elephants from damaging the crops of local farmers in this area and causing human and material damage every year.

The installation of mesh wire will not only control elephants but also reduce the damage caused by aggressive tigers, leopards and other animals to the pets kept by farmers in the settlements near Shuklaphanta National Park. He said that it will help.

Ward Chairman Bahadur Singh Mahara says that the installation of mesh wire will help prevent elephants and wild boars from entering the settlements in Ward No. 8 every year.

Earlier, sirens have been installed in various places in the municipality to prevent wild animals from entering the settlements, as well as lights for lighting.

While mesh wire has been installed in Ward No. 7 and 6 of the municipality with the help of various donor agencies, it is said that work will be taken forward to install mesh wire in Ward No. 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1. .

The municipality is bordered by Shuklaphanta National Park to the north, south, and west, while the Laljhadi Conservation Area and Community Forest are bordered to the east. Surrounded by vast forests on all sides, all wards of the municipality have been affected by wild animals.
