Kathmandu. The Nepali Embassy in Dhaka organized a workshop on ‘Trade and Investment Relations between Nepal and Bangladesh’ on Wednesday evening. The embassy also urged Bangladeshi investors to mobilize capital in energy production.
On the occasion, Ambassador Ghanshyam Bhandari discussed the growing economic engagement between Nepal and Bangladesh, highlighting the progress achieved in the areas of trade, connectivity, energy and tourism, the first import of 40 MW of hydropower from Nepal to Bangladesh, and the energy cooperation that would benefit not only the two countries but the entire South Asian region.
Ambassador Bhandari also urged Bangladeshi business leaders to build a coordinated partnership with the Nepali business community and utilize the investment opportunities available in Nepal, the embassy said.
The special guest of the workshop was the Chief of the Investment Board of Nepal Executive Officer Sushil Gyawali has given detailed information about Nepal’s investment environment, opportunities and priority areas and urged Bangladeshi investors to invest in priority areas including energy, tourism, agriculture, information and communication technology, urban infrastructure, health, mining and minerals.
According to the embassy, Dr. Khandokar Azizul Islam, Executive Member of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority, has informed about Bangladesh’s investment priorities and expressed his commitment to work together with Nepal to strengthen investment relations in areas of mutual benefit.
Abdul Awal Mintu, Chairman of National Bank Limited and former President of the Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, shared his views on trade with Nepal and emphasized the need to strengthen the economic relations between the two countries.
