Kathmandu. Former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has commented that saying that the monarchy should be restored due to the shortcomings and weaknesses in democracy is like drinking poison because you are hungry. He said this while addressing a program organized in Kathmandu on Sunday.

He said that one should not lose courage and be disappointed, and that if there is distortion in the state and those in power make mistakes, the people should correct it. He said that it is necessary to be wise in the current situation and move forward by correcting the shortcomings and weaknesses of democracy.

He said, “One should not lose courage, not be disappointed, when there is distortion in society and the state, and those in power make mistakes, it is the people who should warn and correct it.” But to understand that the leaders who fought for democracy and those who are working in the democratic system have made mistakes and weaknesses, and that the opponents of democracy should come, autocracy and monarchist forces, is like drinking poison because they are hungry. That is not advisable or wise. Let us be wise in the kind of situation that is being created now. The federal democratic republic that we have fought for has been brought about, albeit slowly, in Nepali history, and it has its shortcomings and weaknesses. We must move forward by correcting it.’

He said that there are some errors in the constitution and they need to be corrected, and insisted that the form of government and the electoral system are flawed.
