Itahari. Poet Abinash Bhattarai’s poem ‘Jhyalko Soondharashastra’ has won the first prize in the national poetry competition held at 20 Tarhara, Itahari, Sunsari. Out of the 406 poems received for the ‘Swt. Narayan Poudel Smriti Tarhara Nationwide Open Poetry Competition-2082’, 10 poems were selected and the final competition including recitation was held.
The team including judges Manu Manjil, Thakur Belbase, Badri Bhikhari awarded Bhattarai’s poem the first place. Khotang poet Shubhachandra Rai’s poem titled ‘Asha’ came second in the competition. Similarly, the poem titled ‘The Last Tree of the Earth’ by poet Elisa Eklas from Rasuwa won the third place.
Similarly, ‘The Last Question of Trees to Man’ by Roma Lamsal Nura from Saptari and ‘Struggle and Resolution’ by Deepin Sijapati from Dailekh were consolation prizes. Poet Bhattarai, who came first in the competition organized by Shree Janasahyog 2050 Group Tarhara, was awarded a cash prize of Rs 51,100.
Similarly, the second, third and incentive prizes (to two people) were awarded Rs 41,100, 31,100 and 11,100 respectively. The poems selected in the top 10 were ‘Mother in the Gym of Nature’ by Nishan Acharya of Gorkha, ‘Ani Khatar Banchha Akshar’ by Sundar Shirish of Sindhupalchowk, ‘Ishwar Lai Apil’ by Dr. Smita Shrestha of Sindhupalchowk, ‘Ishwar Veteko Vatshak’ by Subash Rai Bangdel of Ilam, and ‘Bhagwan Ko Marathon’ by Anil Subedi of Dhankuta, which were awarded with a cash prize of Rs 5,100.
The chief guest of the ceremony, senior poet and cultural scholar Tulsi Diwas, presented the prizes to the winners. At the ceremony, the chief guest of Tulsi Diwas honored Naval Nepal, Prakash Chandra Pariyar, Maniram Shrestha, Dr. Dhankeshar Khadka, Kamala Subba, Kamala Chapagain, and others who represented various areas of Tarhara and contributed to local, national and international life.
According to the group’s president, Santosh Shrestha, the short story collection Manashakshu by Rudra Adhikarini Brinchoshi was also released at the ceremony. The organizer of the competition with the highest prize money in Nepal, said Santosh Shrestha, president of Tarhara, Janasahyog 2050 Group.
