Authority reaches Supreme Court against special court’s verdict in case against Balram Thapa

Kathmandu. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority has appealed to the Supreme Court on Sunday against a decision made by a special court.

The Commission has appealed to the Supreme Court after it was dissatisfied with the decision of the special court in the case filed by the Commission against seven people, including Balram Thapa, the then Program Director of the Livestock Market Promotion Directorate, Harihar Bhavan, Lalitpur.

A special case was filed against the defendants, including Thapa, the then Director of the Directorate, Accounts Officer Ram Prasad Bajgain, and Senior Veterinary Doctor Pooja Sharma, on charges of corruption worth Rs 4,737,629.

In Majhagaun, Jirikhimti, Myanglung Municipality-5, Tehrathum A case was filed against them under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059 BS, demanding imprisonment and a fine of the amount due for overpayment in the construction of the Amphawa Cattle Market.

The Special Court had partially acquitted them in the case filed by the Commission on 1 Falgun 2080 BS. The Commission spokesperson Rajendra Kumar Poudel informed that an appeal was filed to the Supreme Court after the Special Court’s decision was not satisfied.
