Kathmandu. A new national survey has revealed strong public support for government measures to reduce the consumption of sugary and sugary beverages as Australia grapples with rising obesity rates.

According to the Canberra-based Public Health Association of Australia, a survey of more than 2,800 adults found that 83 percent of Australians support explicit labeling to warn about sugar added to sugary beverages, 73 percent support a ban on marketing sugary beverages to children, and 56 percent favor health duties or taxes on sugary beverages.

The findings also point to support for better labeling and marketing restrictions on artificially sugary beverages such as diet and zero soda.
