Australian economy loses $2.2 billion in first month of 2025 due to natural disasters

Agency. According to government data, natural disasters caused billions of dollars in damage to the Australian economy in the first month of 2025. In an analysis published, the Federal Fund said that in the first five months of 2025, natural disasters caused a 2.2 billion Australian dollar ($1.4 billion) drop in economic activity.

During the five-month period until the end of May, Australia’s eastern coastal states of New South Wales and Queensland were affected by widespread historic flooding, and when the landfall in March, Alfred became the first cyclone to reach southeastern Queensland in 50 years. Other parts of the country were also affected by severe storms, cyclones and bushfires during this period.
