Kathmandu. The Ministry of Health and Population has said that the procurement of medicines has been stopped because Nepal Drug Limited was not included in the procurement process. Ministry spokesperson Dr. Prakash Budhathoki has denied the issue that Drug Limited stopped producing medicines because the Ministry of Health did not proceed with the procurement process.
He said that the Limited will get the tender if the documents are completed by participating in the tender processes under the Public Procurement Act and Regulations, and commented that this is not like buying goods from a grocery store. He also stressed that the ministry will encourage its domestic and local industries.
Spoken Dr. Budhathoki said that the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industry should express a commitment for Drug Limited to work on a G2G (government-to-government) basis, and they should assure that the production of any medicine will not be stopped throughout the year. He claimed that the ministry did not trust him by not going through the tender process and showing the business plan. He said that Nepal Drug Limited will prepare a business plan and send it to the Ministry of Finance through the Ministry of Industry and after the Ministry of Finance gives its approval, the budget will also be ensured, and there was a discussion in the meeting with the Chief Minister and others.
He also said that the MoU submitted by Drug Limited to the Ministry of Finance was not approved. Nepal Drug Limited has stopped the production of Cetamol and Jeevan Jal for the past one and a half months. Despite increasing production by purchasing a large quantity of raw materials, Drug Limited has stated that it had to stop production when sales in the market stopped after various government agencies did not purchase the medicine.
