Armed police to be on high alert to control border crimes

Sunsari. Kathmandu: The Armed Police Force Nepal (APF) has pledged to maintain high alertness to control the increasing criminal activities and illegal activities in the border areas. Taking strengthening of border security as a long-term priority, the Armed Police Force (APF) has announced to strengthen cooperation and coordination with the border dwellers.

The Armed Police Force, Nepal No. 1 Barah Bahini Headquarters, Pakli, Sunsari, today held an interaction on ‘Armed Police Force with border dwellers’. Senior Superintendent of Armed Police Force Sudhir Jung Thapa said that they would cooperate with the local levels to control border crimes.

People’s representatives from 66 border wards of Ilam, Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari districts bordering India participated in the interaction. Deputy Inspector General of Armed Police Force(APF) Kumar Neupane said that the Armed Police Force (APF) would prepare and implement a strategic plan to control cross-border crimes including drug trafficking, customs evasion and smuggling. He pledged to further strengthen the cooperation and coordination among the federal, provincial and local levels to strengthen border security as the security challenges along the border increased.

The people’s representatives who participated in the program have demanded the resumption of the currently closed small customs, the establishment of new small customs and the increase in the number of women armed police personnel at the border. They said the presence of women police would be effective in controlling criminal activities on the border.
