Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Nepal Communist Party (UML) General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has said that anarchy has increased in the country as the youth could not understand how the present change was brought about. Addressing a programme organised by the Nepali Embassy in London last night, he stressed the need to make the present generation understand about democracy and republic.

General Secretary Pokharel pointed out the need for all pro-democracy activists to unite to strengthen the country which is trying to destroy the democracy and ideals gained through the struggle. Stating that the constitutional commitment has been expressed to move ahead on the path of building socialism in a democratic way, he stressed the need for cooperation and coordination among all to end the tendency of portraying democracy, politics and Nepali society negatively.

“The tendency to accept and communicate illusions as a belief is increasing in Nepali society and the tendency to spread confusion to weaken each other has increased in Nepali society. Everyone needs to coordinate to end it,” he said. He expressed concern over the increasing activities of spreading confusion through social media. General Secretary Pokharel stressed the need for cooperation of all to save the Nepali society from anarchism. “There is a planned propaganda against democracy and republic, which is having a negative impact on nepali society,” he said.

General Secretary Pokharel expressed the belief that everyone’s life has changed after the attainment of democracy. Urging the Nepali community in the UK to think of doing something for the place where they were born, he urged them to invest some part of the capital earned abroad in Nepal. He had gone to the UK and Qatar along with UML politburo member Sujita Shakya to participate in various programmes to be held in the UK and Qatar on June 14. General Secretary Pokharel will return home on June 14.
