Rasuwa. The 216 MW Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project under construction in Rasuwa district has provided an ambulance to the project-affected Amachhodingmo Rural Municipality.
The ambulance equipped with modern facilities has been provided to the rural municipality with the aim of providing humanitarian services to the residents of the project-affected area, including those injured in disasters, accidents and serious diseases, and those in childbirth.
The ambulance provided under the project’s Community Support Program (CSP) will be operated by the Haku Health Post located in Haku, the project-affected Amachhodingmo Rural Municipality-1. Another project-affected rural municipality, Uttargaya, will also be provided with an ambulance soon.
The ambulance operated by the Health Post is expected to be of great help in saving lives by taking the sick and injured in the project-affected area to the hospital on time.
Byeong Soo Min, CEO of the project promoter Nepal Water and Energy Development Company Pvt. Ltd., handed over the key of the ambulance to the rural municipality chairman Buchung Tamang during a program organized in Haku on Monday, Chaitra 18.
Ambulance handover program was attended by ward chairmen of Amachodingmo Rural Municipality, Bada No. 1 and 2, The chief of the health center, officials of the Indigenous Peoples Council, local residents, and others participated.
At the event, the company’s CEO, Byong Su Min, said that the resource-rich ambulance was provided to the rural municipality to provide emergency health services to patients and accident victims in the project-affected areas before they are taken to the hospital.
He said, “We believe that the ambulance provided will be a milestone in taking patients to health services on time, keeping in mind the expansion of access to basic health services for residents of the project-affected areas.” .’
Says that development projects will be successful only if they are implemented in collaboration and coordination with the locals, and urges that programs be implemented accordingly as the affected people will be the first beneficiaries of the benefits from the projects.
He said that the ambulance will help provide access to modern health services to residents of difficult and remote areas. The ambulance has been purchased as per the standards specified in the National Ambulance Directive by the Government of Nepal. The revenue levied on the import of ambulances has been exempted from the Government of Nepal. The cost of the ambulance purchased at a tax exemption is Rs. 2.5 million.
The project has so far spent about Rs. 170 million in the affected areas through the community support program. Under the SSP, Corporate Social Responsibility and Indigenous Community Planning Program, it has been supporting the affected areas through programs such as education, health, drinking water, road infrastructure, cultural development, relief distribution, livelihood and income generation.
Under the leadership of Korean companies, the project’s dam and other structures in Hakuma, Amachodingo Rural Municipality-1 of Rasuwa, and underground power plants and other structures are under construction in Uttargaya Rural Municipality-1 with direct foreign investment. The Upper Trishuli-1, which will use the generated electricity for domestic consumption, is the largest project under construction with direct foreign investment.
The main construction of the project began in 2078 Paush. The construction of all structures including the underground power house, main tunnel, dam, etc. is progressing at a rapid pace from all sides. The overall physical progress of the project is 56 percent.
Korean company Dusan Ernbileti is working on the engineering, procurement and construction model for the construction of the project.
Nepal Water and Energy Development Company, the promoter of the project, has equity investments from the Korean government-owned Koen, the International Finance Corporation under the World Bank Group, and others. The project has been financed by 70 percent debt and 30 percent equity.
9 international financial institutions have signed an agreement to invest 453.2 million US dollars in the project, which has a total estimated cost of 647.3 million US dollars (including interest during the construction period). The remaining amount has been raised from equity.
The project will generate 1.533 billion units of energy annually. Of the total annual energy generated by the project, 38.75 percent will be generated in the winter season and 61.25 percent in the rainy season. The generated energy will be connected to the Trishuli-3B Hub Substation of the Nepal Electricity Authority and integrated into the national transmission system. The power purchase agreement between the company and the authority has been concluded.
The project is considered very attractive for the country’s electricity system as it is close to the Kathmandu load center and will generate 104 megawatts of electricity even in winter, when electricity demand is highest. The project will generate 104 megawatts of stable (farm) energy throughout the year. The project is targeted to be completed by Mangsir 2083.
