Bagmati. All three units of the Kulekhani Hydropower Station in Makawanpur have come into operation at full capacity. Since the dry season has begun, the first, second and third units of the Kulekhani Hydropower Station have come into operation at full capacity.
Kulekhani Hydropower Station I is generating 60 megawatts, the second 32 megawatts and the third 14 megawatts of electricity. ‘Kulekhani Hydropower Station is currently operating at full capacity for 14 to 18 hours a day, depending on the need,’ said Tara Dutta Bhatta, head of Kulekhani Station I, ‘All three units have come into operation at full capacity since Chaitra 30.’
He said that electricity is being generated as per the need. Ram Kumar Budhathoki, Assistant Engineer of Kulekhani Hydropower Station I, said that all three units of the Kulekhani Hydropower Station have been put into operation at full capacity to manage the electricity load due to the decrease in production of runoff river-based projects during the dry season.
‘The runoff river-based project is fully operational during the rainy season,’ said Assistant Engineer Budhathoki. ‘At that time, we store water in the dam and with the onset of the dry season, the electricity production of the runoff river-based project decreases.’
He said that the Kulekhani Hydropower Station units will be operational during the dry season. ‘We have been operating at full capacity as per the requirements of the power load management center,’ said Budhathoki. ‘Currently, we are generating electricity for 14 to 18 hours a day, and if necessary, we will generate electricity around the clock.’
According to Assistant Engineer Budhathoki, Kulekhani Hydropower Station I has generated 81,209 megawatts of electricity from Shrawan to Falgun in the current fiscal year 2081/82. In the fiscal year 2080-81, only 34,388 megawatts of electricity were generated.
