Kathmandu. National flag carrier Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has embarked on a 67-year journey.
Established on July 1, 1958, nac has been operating a wide-body A330-200 series aircraft for the last time in 67 years.
The airline currently flies to New Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai in India, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Narita in Japan, Doha in Qatar, Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.
Nac is operating international flights through two wide-body A330 and two narrowbody A320 series aircraft. On the domestic side, the corporation is providing services at the airports in the remote areas. Nac has two twin otter aircraft for domestic flights.
Due to the lack of aircraft, the corporation has a declining presence in the domestic market. The corporation has been celebrating the anniversary by organizing formal ceremonies in the past year, but in recent years it has been organizing only normal programs.
The corporation, which has a history of 67 years of its establishment, has not been able to significantly improve its market share. The corporation’s debt liability has reached around Rs 50 billion.
The corporation had taken loans from the Employees Provident Fund and The Citizen Investment Fund to purchase the wide-body aircraft. The nac’s reputation, which has deteriorated due to lack of proper operation of aircraft, competition with budget airlines, has now been enhanced by excellent ground handling service and trade promotion in international destinations. Although study committees have been formed several times to improve the existing condition of the corporation, they have not been implemented.
In terms of experience, the corporation should have made great progress now. However, the corporation has reached the stage of closure of the corporation as it has always been working under pressure and influence in the leadership of the corporation. The corporation has not been able to pay the interest on the loan given by the Urban Investment Fund and The Accumulation Fund regularly.
Although the Ministry of Talukdar has made public various schemes for the management improvement of the corporation, they have not been implemented practically. NAC spokesperson Subash Dangi claimed that all the four wide-body aircraft at international destinations are operating at full capacity.
He said that the service could not be extended to all destinations due to the low number of aircraft in the domestic market. Spokesperson Dangi said that efforts are being made to expand the flight service to more new destinations on the international side.
The friendly football tournament was held on the occasion of the 67th anniversary of the corporation. The event was held at an ANFA Sports Ground in Satdobato organized by the Sports Sub-Committee under the Anniversary Main Celebration Committee.
In the presence of the Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, separate competitions were held between the group of male employees, the group of female employees and the executive groups of the corporation. An open poetry recitation competition and table tennis competition were held on the occasion of the anniversary. Meanwhile, on the occasion of the day, the CORPORATION is conducting a morning walk in the central office premises this morning.
