Kathmandu. The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade have reached an agreement to form a joint commercial council.
The Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade has reached an agreement to form a joint commercial council through bilateral talks at its own office with the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry team visiting Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. It is said that the joint commercial council will facilitate investment promotion and investment exchange in both countries.
Chandra Prasad Dhakal, who is in Bangkok leading the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, said that the commercial council will help identify potential areas for investment as the investment environment in Nepal is developing. He said that Thai businessmen have shown interest in tourism, services, food processing, packaging, and construction material production in Nepal.
Chairman Dhakal also said that he had requested the Thai Chamber of Commerce to provide on-arrival visas to industrial Nepalis during the talks.
He said, ‘We especially urged Thai businessmen to invest in Nepal. We called on them to invest, saying that Nepal’s old laws have been changed and a comfortable environment has been created for investment, and the government has also given priority to foreign investment. They have also shown interest in tourism, hospitality and other sectors.’
‘Similarly, we have urged the Thai government to take the initiative for on-arrival visas for industrialists coming from Nepal. They said that they will take the initiative. They also expressed concern about the prospects of investment in Nepal due to the lack of political stability in Nepal. We have said that since the political activities and economic aspects are different, it does not matter if the policy has changed now,’ he said.
Chairman Dhakal said that Thai businessmen have said that investment will be affected due to the lack of political stability in Nepal. He said that they are of the opinion that investment will not be affected as the government has also changed its policy to facilitate foreign investment.
He said that they have also moved forward in the process of forming the BIMSTEC Chamber by discussing with the member countries and making it active.
