Kathmandu. The government has decided to increase the age of old age allowance by two years. The government is going to increase the age of getting old age allowance by two years from the budget of the current fiscal year. At present, rs 4,000 per month is being given to the citizens above 68 years of age. Now the old age allowance will be available only after the age of 70 years.
In 2051 BS, the then UML-led government had introduced the Buddha Allowance from Rs 100 per month. Janardan Sharma had reduced the age of old age allowance to 68 years in 2079 BS. Rameshwor Khanal-led High Level Economic Suggestion Commission had suggested to increase the age of getting old age allowance. With the government’s decision to implement the recommendation, the age of getting the old age allowance is going to be increased to 70 years from this year.
And now the national identity card will also be made mandatory to get the old age allowance.
