Kathmandu. In the last week of December, 8 commercial firms, including Bhatbhateni Super Market, tried to submit their Value Added Tax (VAT) details. But the taxpayers were shocked when they found that the details had already been submitted.

After this, the taxpayers filed an application with the Inland Revenue Office, Bharatpur. When the office investigated the application, it was found that another person had submitted the details of the companies. After this, the office informed the department.

Punya Bikram Khadka, head of the Bharatpur office, informed that the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) is currently investigating the matter of the submission of the details of 8 commercial firms by an unauthorized person. Chief Tax Officer Khadka told Singha Durbar, “After the taxpayers’ complaints, we have also informed the department. We have received information that one of the firms has not changed its password for five years. Further details will be revealed after investigation.”

According to the source, people working in an audit firm in Chitwan had obtained the permanent account number of Bhatbhateni and succeeded in logging in. They said that they had gone into Bhatbhateni’s system and checked the details, but they did not upload the details. They claim that another person had uploaded the details using the same IP address. However, the department stated that they were the ones found guilty by the department’s system.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has arrested two people after the details were uploaded. The department filed a complaint with the police after it was discovered that an unauthorized person had entered the Inland Revenue Department’s system and uploaded details, said Ram Prasad Acharya, Director General of the department. Director General Acharya said, “After leaving the bus firm and going to another firm without changing the username and password for a long time, it was found that the old firm uploaded the details. As soon as this was discovered, I called the police and asked them to arrest those people.”

According to Director General Acharya, companies will be required to change their username and password after leaving the firm. Those arrested include Parin Pandey and Santosh Parajuli in Chitwan.

However, it is understood that the technical side of the department is very weak. If you try continuously to get the PAN number of a company, it can be easily opened. Because the department’s system has a system that does not lock no matter how many times you try. Similarly, no verification is required in the use of username and password. It is seen that the department should adopt a strict security system in username and password.
