Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the ongoing 38th African Union (AU) Summit at its headquarters in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, Tidiane Ouattara, Chairperson of the African Space Council of the African Space Agency, said the African continent lacks a significant pool of expertise needed to fully utilize space science and technology.
Outara said the African Space Agency, a newly established independent organ of the AU, has been entrusted by African leaders with the responsibility of promoting the use of space science and technology by fostering continental cooperation and advancing relevant knowledge and skills. .
He informed that space science is relatively new in Africa and is still being felt. 60 percent of Africa’s population is young.
