Currently, ADB is operating 32 different projects in Nepal. In which a total of $4.3 billion has been invested. ADB says that work is being done in areas such as private sector development, agriculture, education, energy, finance, industry and trade, public sector management, transport, and urban development through these projects. On that occasion, ADB Nepal Resident Director Arnaud Cauchois informed about ADB’s activities in Nepal.

The World Bank’s Country Director for Nepal, David Sislen, described the private sector as a key development partner in Nepal’s development and mentioned that the bank is paying special attention to the information technology (ICT), energy, and tourism sectors. He mentioned that infrastructure development and increased spending through the bank are the basis for economic prosperity in Nepal. However, he said that there has been a significant decrease in spending since 2018.

The bank has noted that the spending implementation rate has fallen below 80 percent in fiscal years 2023 and 2024, and this trend could be a challenge to economic development. He said that service sectors such as tourism, real estate, and trade are forecast to be the main drivers of economic growth.

At the event, Darrin Christensen, Economic and Commercial Officer at the US Embassy, said that this series organized by AmCham Nepal will encourage American companies to expand their businesses in Nepal. He appreciated the presence of these institutions, saying that the projects of ADB and the World Bank Group have direct links with the information technology, energy and tourism sectors of Nepal.

Xiao Bing Feng, Chief Commercial Officer of the US Embassy in New Delhi, said that they are committed to connecting Nepali and American businessmen in mutual partnerships. He informed that Nepali companies will be encouraged to participate in the Select ‘USA’ program.

AmCham Nepal General Manager Amir R. Thapa, in his welcoming remarks, said that the organization is committed to establishing Nepal as a potential destination for trade and investment. He said that AmCham is working as a bridge between the US business community and the Nepali government. He expressed his belief that this will contribute to promoting entrepreneurship, creating jobs, and strengthening Nepal-US bilateral trade.

He mentioned that AmCham Nepal is working towards making trade between Nepal and the US more convenient, effective, and profitable. He said that AmCham Nepal is focused on promoting free enterprise, protecting American business values, and Nepal’s economic transformation.

He said that he expects American investment in new sectors such as tourism, energy, information technology, manufacturing, the service sector, and carbon trading to play a significant role in unlocking Nepal’s economic potential. The event was attended by members of AmCham Nepal, partner organizations, the US Embassy, and regional international trade administrators.

This AmCham training series is expected to increase the potential for US investment in Nepal and further strengthen economic partnerships.
