Bagmati. The Inland Revenue Office, Makawanpur, Hetauda, has initiated action against 122 taxpayers who have not paid taxes for a long time. Chief Tax Officer Yukta Prasad Subedi informed that legal action has been initiated to freeze bank accounts, import, export and property by preparing records of taxpayers who have not paid taxes for a long time despite being registered.
The office has stated that more than 600 million rupees are yet to be collected from taxpayers who have not paid taxes. “We have initiated action against taxpayers who have been repeatedly asked to pay taxes verbally and in writing,” said Chief Tax Officer Subedi. “That is why we have initiated the process to freeze the taxpayer’s bank accounts, transactions, real estate, and import and export.” He said that after initiating the legal process, some taxpayers even come to pay taxes.
Similarly, the Internal Revenue Office, Hetauda, Makawanpur, has collected 4.87 billion 5.9 billion in revenue during the nine months of the current fiscal year 2081/82. This is 82.32 percent of the target. According to Office Chief Subedi, the target was to collect Rs 6.454 billion 36 thousand in revenue during the nine months of the current fiscal year 2081/82, but Rs 4.8759 billion 6 thousand have been collected.
Chief Subedi said that the annual target is to collect Rs 8.44 billion in revenue in the current fiscal year 2081/82. There are 34,229 taxpayers in the office for income tax, 5,953 for value added tax, 1,611 for excise duty, 713 for withhold tax and 84,429 for individual taxpayers. Chief Subedi says that revenue collection has increased in the same period of the current fiscal year compared to the six months of the previous fiscal year due to the recent increase in economic transactions in the country, ease in credit flow from banks and financial institutions, improvements in tax policy, regular market monitoring, taxpayer education, and stricter collection of outstanding arrears.
