Accounts Committee directed to submit reasons for cement price hike within seven days

Kathmandu. The Public Accounts Committee under the Federal Parliament House of Representatives has directed the government to conduct a detailed study on the issue of cement price hike and submit the reasons within seven days.

Announcing the decision of today’s meeting of the Accounts Committee, Chairman Hrishikesh Pokharel said, ‘The increase in cement prices has also increased the cost of construction and since such a price hike appears unnatural, it seems that the concerned ministry should intervene. This committee directs the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies to conduct a study and analyze the reasons for the price hike and submit it within seven days.’

The committee has also directed to develop and implement a pricing system for consumer goods. Stating that the committee has received complaints that the industry is still experiencing load shedding for up to 12 hours, Chairman Pokharel said that it has been decided to seek a response from the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation on the extent of load shedding in the industry.

The committee had discussed the issue of the increase in cement prices with the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, the Federation of Nepal Construction Entrepreneurs and the Cement Manufacturers Association today.
