Dang. Former Prime Minister and Chairman of Nepal Samajwadi Party (New Power) Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has said that Nepal’s economy and politics are in serious crisis.

At a program organized in Ghorahi, he said that if a consensus can be reached sooner or later and a directly elected presidential system can be established, the current problems that have emerged will be resolved. He said that a directly elected presidential system is now needed as the current form of governance has not been able to function as expected even though the constitution has established political rights.

He said that if there is a directly elected executive, economic development will be institutionalized in a country where the government remains stable. “If treatment is not given during the disease, instability will increase further,” he said, “The 2072 Constitution gave political rights but could not advance the issue of economic development. That is why disappointment has increased among the people.” RSS
