Kathmandu. The government is delaying the appointment of the Governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank. The government is trying to bring the Nepal Rastra Bank into controversy after it has not yet been able to appoint the Governor, who should have been appointed a month in advance according to the law.
On February 26, 2081, the Ministry of Finance amended the criteria for the appointment of officials related to the Ministry of Finance. Provisions regarding qualifications for appointment have been made in Section 3 of the criteria. In the previous criteria, (a), (b), (c) were included in the qualifications for appointment in Section 3. Now (c) of that criterion has been removed. In the previous criterion c, it is mentioned that ‘in the case of the Chief Executive Officer, thirty years of age and in the case of other officials and members other than the Chief Executive Officer, thirty-five years of age and not exceeding sixty-five years of age.’ Now that provision has been removed.
A writ petition has been filed in the Supreme Court after preparations were made to make a person over the age of 65 the governor by changing the criteria in the interests of middlemen. Advocates Pratibha Upreti and Vishal Thapa have filed the writ petition. The petitioners have sought a mandate from the court as the 65-year age limit is required in all areas of government appointments.
