Myagdi. A bridge using ‘steel truss’ technology has been constructed on the Kosera River in Kuine, Raghuganga Rural Municipality-8. The 32-meter-long bridge, built at a cost of Rs 3,324,167, has benefited 485 people from 100 households, informed Dinesh Chhantyal, Chairman of the Consumers’ Committee.
‘The problem of having to cross the river at risk when it floods has been eliminated after the bridge was built,’ he said, ‘now it is possible to cross the river safely and confidently.’ The bridge was constructed in collaboration with Raghuganga Rural Municipality, consumers and the Suspension Bridge Sectoral Support Program. The NGO Milan Myagdi provided social and technical support for the construction of the bridge.
Raghuganga Rural Municipality contributed Rs. 472,477 and the Suspension Bridge Sectoral Program contributed Rs. 3089,273. Consumers have donated labor worth Rs. 72,688 for the construction of the bridge.
According to Dilu Bitalu, president of Milan, an NGO that has been working on community mobilization for the suspension bridge construction project in the district, two suspension bridges have been constructed in Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality and one each in Raghuganga and Beni municipalities so far in the current fiscal year.
Six suspension bridges were constructed in 2080/81 and nine in the fiscal year 2079/80. According to the records of Milan Myagdi, there are 291 suspension bridges across the district. After the construction of the suspension bridge, the obligation to travel on risky and winding roads in the river has been eliminated, the distance of the road has been shortened, and it has become easier for tourists, locals and students to travel, said Bhava Bahadur Bhandari, Chairman of Raghuganga Rural Municipality.
