Solukhumbu. The construction of the 82 MW Lower Solukhola Hydropower under construction in the Tingla area of Solukhumbu district has reached the final stage. The physical progress of the project is 95 percent.
The generator, turbine connection, headbox, power house, tunnel and other structures of the project promoted by the Tallosolu Hydropower Company Limited have been constructed. According to the company’s manager Dharmendra Gotame, the project’s penstock tunnel has reached the ‘back through’ stage.
He said, “The project work has reached the final stage. Now only the penstock pipe is left. Our goal is to have commercial production in the coming Bhadra.” The construction of the project’s transmission line has also been completed by more than 80 percent. Construction work began in August 2016 with a loan of Rs 16 billion from European banks (International Funding Agency) including FMO.
The project is targeted to be completed by September 2025. A dam has been constructed on the Solu River in the Salme area, which borders Solududhkund Municipality-7 and 11, to collect water. The water will be pumped to the power house in Bhadaure, Tingla, about six kilometers away. A five-kilometer-long tunnel has been constructed for this.
He estimates that the cost may exceed the estimated cost due to geographical difficulties and the long tunnel. Currently, seven hundred workers are working on the project. In addition, 100 locals have also been employed.
After the project is completed, it is expected that a minimum of 23 megawatts of electricity will be generated in the winter and 82 megawatts in the rainy season. The generated electricity will be connected to the national transmission line through the Tingla substation.
