Kathmandu. Imports of electric cars, jeeps and vans (EV vehicles) have increased by 27.42 percent as of Mangsir of the current fiscal year. According to data released by the Customs Department, EV imports have increased by 1,011 units, or 27.42 percent, compared to the same period last fiscal year.
4,697 EVs have been imported to Nepal as of Mangsir of the current fiscal year. Compared to the same period last fiscal year, such imports were 3,686 units. In the month of Mangsir, 1,490 EVs of 51 kW were imported, while 2,757 EVs of 51 kW to 100 kW were imported into Nepal.
Similarly, according to the data released by the Customs Department, 443 EVs of 101 kW to 200 kW were imported into Nepal. Similarly, 5 EVs ranging from 2010 to 300 kW and 2 EVs above 300 kW have entered Nepal.
Nepali businessmen have spent 11.27 billion 21.26 million rupees to purchase these EV vehicles until the month of Mangsir, while the Nepalese government has collected 6.96 billion 28.43 million rupees in revenue through this.

With the increase in the use of EV vehicles in Nepal, there has also been a significant increase in imports. According to the data released by the department, currently the largest import of EV vehicles is from China.
By Mangsir of the current fiscal year, 3,589 EVs have been imported to Nepal from China alone. Among the imported EVs, 433 are with a capacity of 101 kW to 200 kW, 2,297 are with a capacity of 51 kW to 100 kW, 854 are with a capacity of 50 kW, 3 are with a capacity of 201 kW to 300 kW, and 2 are above 300 kW.
Similarly, 1,096 EVs have entered Nepal from India in 5 months. The data shows that 460 are with a capacity of 51 kW to 100 kW, and 636 are with a capacity of 50 kW. Similarly, 9 EVs have been imported to Nepal from Germany, 2 from the United States, and 1 from the Republic of Korea.
The import of electric vehicles has increased, overtaking petroleum and diesel vehicles. Low cost and easy financing have led to an increase in the use of electric vehicles.
