4,500 vehicle accidents in a month, motorcycles at higher risk

Kathmandu. There have been a lot of vehicle accidents in the past month. According to the Nepal Police Headquarters, 4,535 vehicles have been involved in accidents in the month of Magh alone.

A total of 2,906 accidents have involved so many vehicles. 199 people have died in those accidents. Central Police Spokesperson, Deputy Inspector General of Police Dinesh Kumar Acharya informed that the highest number of accidents involved motorcycles.

According to him, out of the total number of vehicles involved in accidents in a month, only 2,474 were motorcycles. This is 54.55 percent of the total accidents.

After that, jeeps, vans, and micros have been involved in 21.21 percent of accidents. Among others, buses accounted for 5.53 percent, trucks and tankers for 6.2 percent, tractors for 2.36 percent, and tempos for 5.18 percent.

Other vehicles including dozers and loaders have also been found to be involved in accidents.

Cause of accident

The analysis by the Police Headquarters has also concluded that most accidents are due to speeding. 1,179 accidents have occurred due to driver negligence.

After that, more accidents have occurred due to driver negligence and drunkenness. Accidents have also occurred when pedestrians are crossing the road. 864 accidents have occurred due to driver negligence, 204 due to drunkenness, etc.

199 deaths

The police have stated that 199 people have died in those accidents. The deceased include 147 men, 39 women, 11 boys and two girls. Similarly, police have reported that 560 people were seriously injured and 3,351 people were slightly injured in those accidents.
