Kavrepalanchowk. A 30-feet-tall statue of Buddha has been erected at the earthquake site of Nala, the historic city of Banepa municipality. The statue of Buddha has been constructed with the objective of promoting external and internal tourism on this hill located at Banepa-4.
Rs 4 million has already been spent on the construction of the statue. Ganesh Moktan, chairman of Namobuddha Town Committee of The Communist Party of Nepal (UML), said that the statue has been constructed with financial assistance in the phedi area of Nagarkot to attract tourists. According to him, lamas have worshiped the statue according to Buddhism and pran pratishthan has been established.
Moktan said that the statue of Buddha has also been constructed to maintain religious tolerance as a full-size statue of Brahma has also been constructed along with ten avatars nearby. The full-size statue of Brahma is believed to be the first in Asia with ten incarnations built at the place a few years ago.
Similarly, a statue of Buddha has been constructed near the statue of Brahma to make the earthquake hill an attractive center of religious and tourism. Moktan informed that the process of constructing a ‘therapy park’ has also been started at the place where the Buddha statue is located.
“A budget of Rs 16.5 million has already been received from the Bagmati state government for the construction of the park. He said that the place would be developed and promoted as a tourist destination by gradually constructing other necessary physical infrastructures.
