Nepalgunj. A total of 2,200 value-added taxpayers registered at the Inland Revenue Office, Nepalgunj have been suspended. Purna Prasad Neupane, chief of the Inland Revenue Office, Nepalgunj, said that around 2,200 value-added taxpayers have been suspended for not submitting their details.

He said that those who did not submit the details have been suspended and the transactions of the organization have also been stopped, while the Department of Internal Revenue has been suspending the tax payers who have not submitted vat returns continuously for six months. There are more than 8,000 value-added taxpayers in Banke. Chief Neupane said that the department has been suspended for ignoring the taxpayers despite knowing that they have to submit tax details.

He clarified that although such action was not taken earlier as the law was unclear, now the action of suspension will continue from now on as the act and rules are clear. “Doing any transaction with the suspended farms will also create problems for those who do business,” he said. Earlier, the Department had made public the names of taxpayers who did not submit tax returns for six consecutive months as per Sub-section 8 of Section 17 of the Value Added Tax Act, 2052 BS. The registration of vat has been suspended by withholding the tax deduction of such taxpayers.
