Jhapa. In the first six months of the current fiscal year, Jhapa police have arrested 213 people involved in drug abuse and trafficking. Narcotics including brown heroin, marijuana, hashish and other drugs were seized from the arrested people, said Krishna Kumar Chand, spokesperson of the District Police Office and Deputy Superintendent of Police.
He informed that approximately 3.67 kilograms of marijuana, 720.80 grams of brown heroin, 7,237 tramadol tablets, and anti-cough tablets were seized from the arrested accused. The police have been taking people into custody along with drugs. According to the District Police Office, 151 drug cases have been registered in the District Court Jhapa in the past six months.
Spokesperson Chand said that the police have increased their activity in various places and border points in the district where drug trafficking is taking place. ‘Drug trafficking has been seen from the border, villages to the city markets,’ he said. ‘We have also been conducting awareness programs to control drugs.’
Similarly, the police have arrested 148 absconding defendants in the past six months and taken necessary action. According to Spokesperson Chand, goods worth Rs 16.11 million, 722 crore worth of customs fraud have been seized from various places in the district and handed over to the Mechi Customs Office.
