The Inland Revenue Office, Bharatpur, has initiated a recovery notice after 10 companies invested by Indian and Chinese citizens in the district failed to pay nearly Rs 200 million in revenue. Of the companies registered with the Revenue Office on the recommendation of the embassy, one is owned by a Chinese citizen and nine are operated by Indian citizens. These companies have a revenue arrears of Rs 198.8 million. The office has written to the Revenue Department after more than Rs 1 million in revenue was due.
According to Yubaraj Khadka, the tax officer of the office, a letter was written to the department in the first week of Magh regarding the collection of revenue from these companies. The department was written to the department after the operators did not come in contact despite repeated requests. China Sichuan International Corporation, a company operated by Chinese citizens, has yet to pay Rs 1.9 million in income tax. Nine other companies operated by Indian citizens have yet to pay Rs 196.9 million in revenue. Of which, 56.2 million is from Value Added Tax (VAT) and 146 million is from Income Tax, Khadka informed. The amount is increasing day by day as fines and interest increase daily.
Foreign citizens work here by registering a company and keeping a passport, a letter from the embassy and some money as a deposit. He informed that it is difficult to collect revenue as they do not have any immovable property here and some do not even do banking transactions. According to Khadka, necessary instructions have been sought from the department after it was difficult to collect the arrears. Most of these companies are garbage collectors. Among the ten companies, Navadurga Traders has the highest pending revenue of 146.855 million. The company, which is in the name of Indian citizen Bijli Chaudhary, has yet to pay income tax and value added tax (VAT) for the fiscal years 075.76 and 073.74.
According to Khadka, the tax officer of the office, 41.556 million two hundred and 16 crores of revenue has to be paid from VAT and 105.299 million from income tax. According to him, the office has investigated the fake invoice and found that the revenue equivalent to that amount is yet to be paid. The Internal Revenue Department had assessed tax on this company on 30th Baisakh, 2081 BS. Khadka informed that only Rs. 200,000 has been paid so far. The office had investigated 68 taxpayers in fake invoices in the fiscal years 075.76 and 073.74. He said that more than Rs 1.21 billion in revenue is yet to be collected from them.
