Kathmandu. The government has decided to mobilise 17,700 human resources, excluding the Nepal Army, to mitigate the risk of monsoon-related disasters. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority informed about this through a press conference at Singha Durbar on Tuesday.
Speaking at a press conference, NRA spokesperson Under-Secretary Ram Bahadur KC said 10,085 personnel from Nepal Police and 7,615 from Armed Police Force have been kept ready for monsoon-related disaster mitigation, post-disaster relief and rescue.
He clarified that the Nepal Army has also prepared human resources accordingly. According to him, the equipment is also ready. He said that there may not be a situation to reduce the risk of disaster.
He said that this situation may arise due to limited resources. He said that the security agencies could not carry out rescue and search due to limited resources while making maximum use of limited resources and learning lessons from the previous years.
He said there was a shortage of technology, search materials and manpower available with the security agencies and there was a need to meet them.
He said that the responsibility of the monsoon response command post has not been clear in the past, so the responsibility has been clarified this year. He said that the monsoon response command post will not only be at the center but also at the state, district and local levels.
According to the NRA, 8,418 disaster-related incidents have taken place in Nepal in the last 10 years. As a result, 2,317 people have died. Similarly, 419 people have gone missing and 2,649 have been injured.
Last year’s monsoon had received the highest rainfall in 77 years. A total of 250 people have died in the period from September 10 to 23. In the same period, there was a loss of Rs 45 billion. Last year alone, 495 people were killed in 2,138 disaster-related incidents. 66 people have gone missing.
