Galkot. 15,838 national identity cards have been piled up at the District Administration Office, Baglung, after service recipients did not come to collect their identity cards.
Ram Prasad Upadhyay, head of the administration branch of the office, informed that most of the people who filled out the national identity card form and went abroad did not come to collect their identity cards.
He informed that although up to 200 service recipients come for new identity cards every day, only a few come to collect identity cards that are in preparation.
The pile-up has occurred because only 20 to 50 service recipients come to collect their identity cards every day. Currently, the work of collecting details for the national identity card is underway at the ward level.
Section Officer Upadhyay said that 28,885 national identity cards have been prepared and received by the district administration so far. Of these, only 13,047 identity cards have been taken by the service recipients, while 15,838 identity cards are with the administration, he said.
The number of identity card distributions has been low since the person has to come in person to collect the identity card and have to undergo biometrics again.
The District Administration Office, Baglung is preparing to hold a camp in Galkot Municipality for the distribution of identity cards. It is said that there was a problem in storage when the identity card was changed.
After the Supreme Court’s decision to dismiss the writ petition against the national identity card, the national identity card has now become mandatory for every work specified by the government.
The national identity card, which can be used as a digital card of international standards to eliminate the shortcomings of the Nepali citizenship certificate and to streamline the country’s security system, includes the identity of the bearer’s 10 fingerprints.
It will be printed on a card with a chip and will include personal and biological details. Since all the details of a citizen will be included in a single digital card, there will be no hassle of carrying around documents like citizenship, license, voter ID card with photo, and land ownership certificate.
The national identity card also includes details of personal events registered from the birth of a person to his death. According to the National Identity Card and Registration Department, the national identity card will be managed online from the birth of any person.
